Course Description
Accurately locating and mapping property is a critical skill for real estate professionals, especially when working with rural, farm, and ranch properties in Texas. Introduction to Mapping Techniques in Real Estate is designed to help license holders build a practical understanding of the tools and resources used to identify, research, and visualize property locations with confidence.
This course introduces REALTORS® to essential mapping tools such as county appraisal district (CAD) maps, GIS systems, FEMA flood maps, the Web Soil Survey, Google Maps and Google Earth, Land.id, and Railroad Commission resources. Participants will learn how to accurately locate properties, research land characteristics, and better serve their clients with reliable, data-driven property information.
The course also highlights the importance of precise property identification and the risks and liability that can arise when properties are misidentified. Through real-world examples and guided discussion, agents and brokers will explore how these tools can be used to better understand key property characteristics such as boundaries, flood risk, soil composition, utility infrastructure, and nearby mineral activity.
Emphasis is placed on practical application, helping professionals translate mapping data into meaningful insights for their clients. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to locate properties more accurately, interpret mapping data with greater confidence, and communicate relevant property information clearly and effectively.
This course is ideal for agents working with acreage, rural properties, or land transactions who want to strengthen their research skills and deliver a higher level of service to buyers and sellers.
